EXTRA FARE

Tuesday June 14, 2022

Tennessee Valley Railroad - 7:30 am to 5:30 pm

Attention All NSE Train Folks!  IT HAPPENED! At the request of many members, we’ve worked diligently to find ensure a train to ride for this convention and with the help of our friends at Scale Trains, we have received something extra special!

We knew it was not possible to find a train ride in the Nashville area, but boy oh boy did we get help from convention sponsor and manufacturer Scale Trains and came up with a doozy! (By the way, did you know that saying came from ads for the Duesenberg?).  Shane and Co. have arranged a visit to the Civil War era strategic railroad hub city of Chattanooga, TN.  This “local” excursion is on unique rails that traverse a 160 year old tunnel, historic back shops and an active turntable.

If the stars stay in alignment and the ~120 year old bolts hold together, we will travel behind a unique locomotive.  Southern 630, a ALCO 2-8-0 Consolidated type steam engine from 1904 will be on point.  Naturally, availability of any vintage power is not guaranteed, and vintage 1950’’s GP7/9 may be used. If schedules allow, TVRM will arrange a photographer’s dream, a run by the locomotive. Regardless of the motive power, we have lined up a heck of a ride behind some classic power on vintage iron rails.

The tour will include bus transport to Chattanooga, a box lunch at the museum and back shop, the Fabulous excursion train, and Special Pricing on Scale Trains products at the station for tour attendees only. Of course, on the bus back to the convention site, there may or may not be a singalong.
